Leila, a young talented tightrope walker, has been banned from performing due to threats from fanatics and extremists. Since then, she has become a clown in an old circus owned by her father. Samir, a teenage boy, falls in love with Leila and, instead of going to school, aimlessly roams around the circus. Meanwhile, the political and economic problems in Iran are getting worse day by day.
Majid-Reza Mostafavi started his film career editing and making short films. His humanistic narratives deal with the forgotten class and important but lesser known events. Hard Shell is his third feature film.
