In this rousing account, a dying woman (Shahnaz) assembles a group of individuals from different communities and parts of the country to raise resistance against the Portuguese rule of Goa. The film featured Madhu, Utpal Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan, Jalal Agha, Anwar Ali and Madhukar in the roles of the brave ensemble.
Khwaja Ahmad Abbas was an Indian film director, screenwriter, novelist, and journalist in Urdu, Hindi and English. As a director and screenwriter, he is considered one of the pioneers of Indian neo-realist cinema. Internationally, his films have won the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm Grand Prize) at Cannes Film Festival and the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
