cinema personalities to pick the awardees for Golden and Silver Peacocks

Nadav Lapid (Jury Chairperson)

Writer and Film Director, Israel

Nadav Lapid is a writer and director born in Tel-Aviv, Israel. He studied philosophy at the University in TelAviv, French literature in Paris and cinema at the Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem. His first feature film, ‘Policeman’, won numerous awards, such as the Jury Prize at Locarno in 2011 and the Best Film at the BAFICI. His second ‘The Kindergarten Teacher’, an Israeli-French co-production, won more than 20 international awards. Nadav is presently working on his third film, ‘Micro Robert’. His latest medium-length film, From the Diary of a Wedding Photographer, had a special screening at the 55th Semaine de la Critique.

Lapid was named as a member of the jury of the International Critics’ Week section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. He is a recipient of the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres which is conferred on personalities who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of arts in France.

Jinko Gotoh

Film Producer, United States

Jinko Gotoh is an award-winning producer and consultant for the animation industry. Gotoh places particular emphasis on innovation in animation as a visual storytelling medium. Her strengths and passion include the nurturing of creative talent, discovering new voices, and charting new technologies and creative processes. Gotoh worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation as Director, Digital Production, overseeing the inevitable move to CGI animation and its extensive application on such features as ‘Fantasia 2000’ (1999) and ‘Dinosaur’ (2000).

Gotoh is currently producing ‘Escape from Hat’ for Netflix. Her other producing screen credits include: the Oscar®-winning ‘Finding Nemo’ (2003), Oscar-nominated ‘The Illusionist’ (2006), ‘9’ (2009), ‘The Little Prince’ (2015), ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’ (2019), and Oscar-nominated ‘Klaus’ (2019).

Javier Angulo Barturen

Documentary Filmmaker

Documentary Filmmaker, Film Critic and Journalist, France. Born in Bilbao (Spain, 1949), Javier studied journalism at the University of Pamplona. He was a filmmaker and editor for Televisión Española (TVE) in Bilbao. He was a professor of the EL PAÍS Master of Journalism and collaborates with the University of Valladolid’s Master in Cinema, Audiovisual Communication and Industry which has been co-founded with the Valladolid International Film Festival. Angulo has made two documentaries ‘The Loss’ (2006) co-directed with Enrique Gabriel (first prize for Documentaries at the Habana Film Festival) and ‘Helio’s Suitcase’ (2019) co-directed with Nacho A. Villar, which premiered at Huelva Film Festival. He is Director of the Valladolid International Film Festival (SEMINCI).

Pascale Chavance

Editor, France

She is a French film editor who has edited several award-winning films including ‘Fat Girl’ (2001) directed by Catherine Breillat and ‘Sex is Comedy’ (2002) among several others. Her films have travelled all over the world and won awards in festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Venice and more. Pascale Chavance’s editing style is hard hitting, distinctive and brings out a natural freshness to her films’ look. She is known to take risks with their choices as her films tackle daring subject matter, elevating the art form in the process.

Sudipto Sen

Writer, Director- India

Sudipto Sen is a film Director, who has worked predominantly in Indian cinema. Sen has worked in movies like ‘Akhnoor’, ‘Aasma’, ‘Lucknow Times’ & ‘The Last Monk’. Sen’s next film to hit theatres is ‘The Kerala Story’. He has won the National Film Award in 2020; Best Film Award at London Independent Film Awards in 2018; Best Film Award at Golden Gate Film Festival; Usa 2007-2008 Integrated Realization Award at Brussels; International Film Festival 2008 and the Special Jury Award at San Francisco Film Festival in 2007.
