Set to be held in the beach state of Goa from November 20 – 28, 2017, the 48th International Film Festival of India is already on a roll. With about 1000 entries received from more than 100 countries from across the globe in 2016, this year promises to better than before!
IFFI Goa 2017 will showcase the best of recent International cinema, along with special sections such as Retrospectives, BRICS Award-Winning films, Homages and an Indian Panorama Section featuring the best of Indian Cinema produced in the past year, with the aim of providing a platform for young creative minds to interact, view and learn.
The festival will feature 3 competitive sections:
1) International Competition: General competitive section for world cinema
2) Centenary Award for Best Debut Feature: Created for debut films of young and aspiring directors
3) ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Award: Aimed to promote feature films that focus on peace and love
There will be a host of Masterclasses by eminent film practitioners and Panel Discussions featuring a diverse range of distinguished personalities discussing topics of interest for film enthusiasts.
Glimpses from the past year
Last year, in the 2016 edition, the festival opening and closing ceremonies were hosted at the ‘Shyama Prasad Mukherjee‘ stadium, situated in Taleigao, which was constructed as part of the infrastructure raised to host Lusofonia Games in January 2014. Around 7000 delegates had registered for the IFFI 2016 festival last year. This included more than 820 film delegates including 540 national and 280 international directors, actors, producers, technicians including Oscar Academy members and Hollywood experts. This year is definitely going to be nothing less.
The 48th IFFI is being led by a Steering Committee comprising of noted Indian entertainment industry professionals, including personalities such as Jahnu Barua, Nagesh Kukunoor, Shoojit Sircar, Shaji N Karun, Anand Gandhi, Piyush Pandey, Prasoon Joshi, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Vani Tripathi Tikoo, Meren Imchen, Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, Bharat Bala and Director, NFDC.
In order to enhance the involvement of the Indian film industry, a 40-member Film Preview Committee has been set up comprising of industry professionals from across the country. The members include filmmakers such as Vivek Agnihotri, Nitesh Tiwari, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Bhaskar Hazarika, actors Gautami Tadimalla, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Pallavi Joshi, noted critics and writers Khalid Mohammed, Saibal Chatterjee and Bhawana Somaaya, among numerous others.
A series of new initiatives and packages will also be unveiled in the coming days. The delegate registrations for film institute students will be at no cost.
