2016 is a momentous year for the Film Bazaar as it will be celebrating its 10th edition from 20th – 24th November, 2016 at the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa.
Created and organised by the National Film Development Corporation, the Film Bazaar is South Asia’s largest film market. It is a platform specially created to strengthen ties between International and South Asian film fraternities. The main focus behind the Film Bazaar is to discover, support and showcase South Asian content and talent in film-making, production and distribution. Along with this, the bazaar also facilitates the sales of world cinema in the South Asian region.
This year, Film Bazaar has received over a 1000 international, as well as domestic delegates from over 35 countries. As a registered delegate, you can attend the Knowledge series, industry screenings and daily networking lunches and cocktails. The delegates will also get the opportunity to attend film screenings at IFFI Goa 2016 by paying an additional amount of INR 1000.
Established in the year 1975, the National Film Development Corporation Limited (NFDC) was formed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India with its primary motive being “promotion of the Good Cinema Movement”.
Since its inception, NDFC has produced some prolific films with acclaimed filmmakers. Ghare Baire (Satyajit Ray), Gandhi (Richard Attenborough) and Salaam Bombay (Mira Nair) are to name a few.
NDFC has also been active in building an ecosystem to support the development, financing and distribution of independent films across the country. The Film Bazaar has been a very important part of this process.
Knowledge Series at Film Bazaar
The Knowledge Series consists of specially curated presentations, lectures and panel discussions with key decision makers and market drivers of the film industry. The 10th edition of NFDC Film Bazaar will witness a host of interesting “Knowledge Series” sessions this year.
This year, the central focus in on technology and its impact on narratives, digitalisation and expanding scope of monetizing films. This includes indie films, new voices and the tried and tested ones.
The list of speakers for the Film Bazaar include business unit heads of major media corporations (studios/producers/distributors etc.), top executives of organizations with connections to the film industry, independent aggregators and content providers from across the globe.
Virtual Reality Sidebar and Film Bazaar VR Lounge powered by Samsung GearVR in Knowledge Series
This year, the Knowledge Series, will have a Virtual Reality Sidebar and a Virtual Reality Lounge powered by Samsung GearVR where virtual reality films will be showcased. It is managed by Meraki and slot bookings will soon be open on 1018MB, booking partner for Film Bazaar Virtual Reality Lounge powered by Samsung GearVR.
The VR Sidebar in Knowledge series will be based on Immersive Experiences – a new Industry within the Filmmaking Universe. The VR Sidebar will conduct some very engaging sessions, interesting visual experiences inventory and some very exciting expositions and demos.
The VR Sidebar includes three sessions-
Session 1- Presentation by Michel Reilhac (ex-Head of Film Acquisitions at Arte France curated the VR NEXT sidebar at Cannes 2016 and has also directed 6 VR shorts) on Virtual Reality technology titled Bust Myths – Immersive technology and its role in future Cinema Narratives, is one of the marquee sessions in this sidebar.
Session 2- Presentation by Mirjam Vosmeer, Amsterdam Creative Industries Network on Storytelling & Narratives in 360° VR
The session will delve into the kind of stories that are being told in the Immersive Viewing space and the kind of tools that are used to tell them.
Session 3- It will be conducted by Avinash Changa, CEO and Technical Director of WeMakeVR who will share his experiences around creating VR content – from development through storytelling and distribution for VR.
Google, YouTube and Facebook will be a part of the Knowledge Series

Imtiaz Ali to have a conversation with Nasreen Munni Kabir at the Knowledge Series
One of the key attractions of the Knowledge Series this year will be Imtiaz Ali’s conversation with the London based film author Nasreen Munni Kabir in the session ‘Makeover of the Bollywood Love Story’.
