Who organizes the International Film Festival of India?
The Festival is organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in collaboration with the Entertainment Society of Goa Government of Goa and the Indian Film Industry.

Is the Festival recognized by any association?
The Festival is recognised by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations (FIAPF).

What are the dates of the IFFI?
The 40th International Film Festival of India is scheduled in Goa from 23rd November to 3rd December 2009.

What is the objective behind organizing a festival of this grandeur?
The Festival aims at providing a common platform for the cinematography’s of the world to project the excellence of the film art; contributing to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethos; and promoting friendship and co- operation among peoples of the world.

What are the different film categories that will be screened at the IFFI?

The programme of the Festival will be divided into the following broad categories:

  • Competition: Feature Films by Directors from Asia, Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America
  • Cinema of the World
  • International Competition (Short Film Center)
  • Competition for Vassudha Award for shorts and documentaries
  • Retrospectives, Tributes, Focus & Premieres
  • Indian Panorama
  • Film Bazaar
  • Short Film Center
  • FIPRESCI award for Indian Panorama Feature Films

What are the coveted prizes to be won at the IFFI?
The following prizes will be given away:

  1. Best Film:
    1. A cash prize of Rs. 40,00,000/- to be shared equally between the Director and Producer.
    2. Director to be given the Golden Peacock and a certificate in addition to the cash component.
    3. Producer will get a certificate in addition to the cash component.

  2. Best Director:
    Silver Peacock, Certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 15,00,000/-

  3. Special Jury Award: (to be given to a film or for an individual's artistic contribution to a film, if given to a film, it will be awarded to the Director of the film)
    Silver Peacock, Certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 15,00,000/-

How to attend the Festival?
The International Film Festival of India is an event reserved for film industry professionals this includes: -

  • Cinema, television, radio, theatre and artists from the fields of performing arts
  • Teachers and students of cinema, theatre and performing arts
  • Writers of books on cinema and culture
  • Organizers of currently active cine clubs affiliated with FFSI
  • Members of Goa Cinephile.
  • Senior Government officials whose activity is related to the development of Cinema
  • Diplomats whose assignments are related to promotion of Cultural/ film activities
  • Members of the press (but they must apply to press information bureau) www.pib.nic.in

Accreditations are assigned according to professional activity. Requests must be made with your relevant professional organisation.

Can the common man view the films screened at the IFFI?
IFFI is available to the non-accredited public via open air screenings of films from India and world over and also to the members of GOA CINEPHILE.

A Day Delegate Pass is also available for daily viewers.

Can you buy tickets for the movies in the competitive section?
The new ticketing system allows every delegate to book in advance for any film that he/she would like to see from any of the 18 ticket booths at Old GMC, INOX and Kala Academy.

When is the Official Selection announced?
The Official Selection is announced on the Festival's website on www.iffigoa.org in October

When is the "Screening Schedule" for the Official Selection available?
The screening schedule with the dates and venues of the screenings of selected films is posted on the Festival website two weeks before the event opens.

How can we get photos of the Festival?
The photographs can be availed on the www.iffi.nic.in and www.iffigoa.org
