Just a month ago, Indian Cinema had witnessed a great loss with the death of one of its finest artists, Om Puri. The versatile actor who was part of hundreds of Bollywood films, had also acted if few well known Hollywood movies like, Oscar-winning movie ‘Gandhi’, ‘My Son the Fanatic’, ‘East Is East’, and ‘City of Joy’.
Today, An overwhelming gesture by the Academy has cheered up the fans of Om Puri all around the world. The Oscars 2017 took time to remember the Veteran Actor, who passed away on January 6, 2017, during its “In Memoriam”. The montage honors the many talents lost during the previous year, the lives they touched and the art they made or made possible. It was a well-deserved musical tribute by Grammy and Tony-nominated singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles who delivered a special performance of the Joni Mitchell song “Both Sides Now” commemorating Om Puri among many other great personalities Carrie Fisher, Prince, Gene Wilder, Abbas Kiarostami and Anton Yelchin.
